Antofagasta Terminal Internacional (ATI) installed LED lighting in all of its harbor cranes, becoming the first port terminal in Chile to have this kind of lighting in its operating areas and Gottwald and Liebherr mobile harbor cranes.

From a safety standpoint, according to the company, these lights allow for improved working conditions with the ships and increase productivity. Additionally, they decrease electricity consumption and light contamination, the latter of which is regulated by norm D.S. N°43/2012 of the Environmental Ministry, to protect northern Chile’s pristine skies for astronomical

ATI’s Deputy Engineering and Maintenance Manager, Emerson Villacura, the project lead, indicated that “through our commitment to the environment, safety, and continuous improvement, this project aims to improve work conditions for the crane operators, by way of ensuring that work is done properly during night shifts. Moreover, based on our sustainability strategy, we are focusing our efforts on the energy efficiency of our operations, which will result in lower light energy consumption.”

With the goal of standardizing and improving the lighting in the operating areas, in 2019 ATI converted 232 fixtures in key operating zones from halogen to LED, and today they are adding these new lights to the MHC, with technical collaboration from our partner company Fesanco.
