Antofagasta Terminal Internacional (ATI) joined the Northern Council of Global Compact Chile, an initiative promoted by the local United Nations entity. This new group is made up of companies, local organizations and universities committed to the challenge of continuing to consolidate sustainability in the region, based on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals promoted by the UN's 2030 Agenda.
"At ATI we are very conscious of the need to take action in this fight against climate change as the time to drive change is now. For this reason, we welcomed the invitation from Global Compact to be part of its Northern Council and contribute along these lines, thus strengthening the sustainability initiatives in Antofagasta that can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals," said the terminal's general manager, Juan Pablo Santibáñez.
This commitment was formalized on September 6 in Antofagasta at an activity led by Margarita Ducci, executive director of Global Compact Chile, and Katherina Jenny, a member of the organization's Executive Committee and the host of the initiative in Antofagasta.
"We are very motivated by the call to join this new Global Compact Northern Council, based in Antofagasta, uniting companies and organizations from this important hub of production, to work on the north's priorities, and its most critical issues, for a more sustainable and equitable future for all. We are grateful to have support from leading companies in sustainability, with outstanding initiatives, and to share learning and experiences," said the executive director of Global Compact Chile, Margarita Ducci.
At the event, the signatory companies—including Antofagasta Minerals, Albemarle, FCAB and SAAM Terminals—together with institutions like Universidad Santo Tomás, sealed their commitment to work hard, promoting collaboration with fellow council members and other local players to achieve a positive impact on the region and northern Chile.
