ATI's “Grow with Your Port” Program trained students from CEIA B-32 in Antofagasta

Antofagasta, 22 december 2024

With funding from the government agency SENCE, coordination by OTIC CChC and implementation by Dos Barbas, the ATI program trained a total of 31 students in warehouse and logistics work.

For the second consecutive year, Antofagasta Terminal Internacional (ATI) carried out its Grow with Your Port (Crece con tu Puerto) program, a sustainability initiative that trained students from the CEIA Antonio Rendic B-32 high school in the community.

"This is the second version of this program, which seeks to benefit the community by forming human capital. We thank the school and its principal for the opportunity to contribute to the students’ development, providing them with a tool that will better prepare them for the world of work," said ATI's People Manager, Diego Foweraker.

The beneficiaries were recognized for having passed the warehouse and logistics course, which also included a class on forklifts. Other attendees included Camila Cortés, the Labor Ministry representative for the Antofagasta Region, the school community and the Regional Director of SENCE, Guido Muñoz.

About the event, Camila Cortés remarked, "It is so important that the company carries out these initiatives. Not all companies use the funds granted by SENCE. This is a high-value program because it benefits young people who very enthusiastically managed to pass this course, which will give them a tool that will speed their entry into the workplace."

Mercedes Orellana, the principal of CEIA B-32 high school, emphasized that "this link with the company has given the students graduating from our high school better access to jobs. Of last year's group, 26 people are already employed. It is a good tool for personal and professional development.”

"It was a wonderful learning experience that will help me get a job in the short term. I am very grateful for this opportunity they gave me," said benefiting student, Rosa Rojas.

"Operating a computer is something new for me, but I really wanted to learn, and it's good that adult women now completing high school were also given the opportunity to do so. As a homeowner, I now have the option of working," said student María Cortés.

“This is something useful for the future. I never thought that I would be able to access this benefit. For me, this is an achievement. Now, as I’m finishing high school, I have more possibilities of finding a job," said beneficiary Edgar Melgar.

This is the second version of Grow with Your Port, a program with a strong track record: More than 80% of participants in the first edition effectively entered the job market.
