Environment and Quality

ATI continuously conducts environmental monitoring of both marine ecosystems and air quality in accordance with applicable Environmental Qualification Resolutions (RCAs) and current commitments. In addition, particulate matter and pressure measurements are taken at the Copper Concentrate Receipt, Storage, and Shipping (RAEC) warehouses to quantify particulate concentrations and verify the presence of negative pressure within the facilities.

Since 2016, ATI has committed to reducing its carbon footprint, first by measuring and then by lowering CO2 emissions. This reduction has been certified for the past three years.

We recognize that effective waste management reflects an orderly, efficient terminal and supports a circular economy. Therefore, we actively recycle the majority of our waste streams — including plastics, paper and cardboard, cigarette butts, electronic waste, wood and tires — and continuously expand our recovery programs. Through sorting at source, dedicated collection points, partnerships with certified recyclers, and ongoing staff and public education, we minimize landfill disposal, recover valuable materials, and reduce our environmental footprint.

Our environmental education initiatives in Antofagasta include community outreach and educational programs for schoolchildren, with a focus on protecting the coastal ecosystem and caring for local wildlife. We run hands-on workshops, beach cleanups, guided nature walks, and classroom presentations that teach sustainable practices, marine conservation, and species identification. Collaborating with local schools, NGOs, and municipal authorities, we aim to foster long-term stewardship, promote citizen science participation, and empower youth to become advocates for habitat protection and responsible coastal use.
